Five on Friday, Life

Five on Friday July

Are we really coming up to the last weekend in July and then we’ll be in August? There must be some craziness in the world where time is just getting fast forwarded. Please tell me that’s the case! Well, it’s been 4 months since I’ve last done a Five on Friday, so maybe I’ll be making this a quarterly thing? Who knows. Five on Friday July

I love that picture I took from the plane on my way back to Singapore. My flight from London took off around 9:3opm local time and I forget how amazing summers are in London (if the weather is good!) as the sun sets so late. In Singapore, the sun goes down around 7pm every day without fail, but we do live by the equator. We have been getting some amazing sunsets in Singapore lately, but I love the purples. Where’s your favorite sunset been so far?

My trip back to NYC feels so long ago now and I already miss my family something fierce. It was the greatest feeling in the world seeing my dad so emotional and happy that I had come home to surprise him. I don’t have any pictures – they’re all in my head! – but the look on his face was one I’ll never forget. I came down to the little play area behind our building where he was playing with my nephew and I yelled out, “Hi Daddy!” And he looked at me with this confused expression and then it dawned on him that I was actually there. Then the tears came and the biggest hug ever. 😀 I have to say, the older I get, the harder it is to get on that plane to leave. Just really tugs on my heart, ya know?Five on Friday JulyOn another note, whenever I would fly back home, I would look out the window of the plane as we’re landing and a rush of emotions would come over me that said, “I’m home.” Does that happen to you?  I can’t say that happened when I landed back in Singapore this time around. Maybe it was a fluke, let’s see, but knowing that my so many of my good friends have recently left definitely played a big factor – and more are on their way out. So I’m starting to think that my time is up here; it’s time to start moving back home or closer to home anyway.

I happened to be back in the States for Amazon Prime day. I was excited to finally experience this event after having read about it for so long! But alas, what I had my eye on was not part of Amazon Prime day. Oh well, but I still ordered an electric toothbrush. My first foray into the world of electric tooth brushing. Guys – why haven’t you told me how amazing it is?!?! This is revolutionary!! And another thing I’ve finally discovered, or rather, decided to see what the fuss is all about is Game of Thrones and what the heck “Winter is coming” means. I just started Season 1 but haven’t managed to finish it yet. Hmm. Are you obsessed with GoT?

I went for my first run on Monday for the first time this year??! HAHA Not that I have been a regular runner here in Singy, but I think I did ok. I managed to run for about 17 minutes straight and then I ran/walked for another 30 minutes. I came home and I was not only sweating buckets, the sweat wouldn’t stop for a good hour after that. Gross haha, but that’s life for you in the tropics! And then my IT bands were so not happy after that. #old But am slowly getting back into a fitness routine and it feels good to get active again.  B

By the way, do you by any chance have a recommendation for a good backpack to run with that’s not super huge? I’d like to be able to run home after work! Let me know in the comments!

And with that, have a great weekend!

  • Oh my goodness that sunset is so incredibly beautiful! I can’t even imagine all of the emotions that you must have been going through when you got on the plane to leave your family! I know that I would have been a wreck. Way to go for picking up running again, and outside at that! There’s no way that I’d be able to function in crazy humidity!

    • I used to love to run when I lived in London, but the weather was much more conducive there! Here’s its crazy humid too and my asthma kicks in. But, will persevere this week again!! It’s seriously so much harder to say goodbye to them now that I’m older. ARGHHHH

  • Oh my gosh, is that your nephew in the 2nd picture?! He is SO adorable! It must be so hard to be so far away from them, but at least it’s easier than ever to keep in touch with people over social networks and video calls!!

    • He is pretty cute, isn’t he? 😀 It’s getting harder and harder, especially since he’s finally remembering who I am… 🙁

I love that you were able to surprise your Dad! There really is nothing like spending time with family and just being together. I get to see my family in a month and I can’t wait.

    • I totally love spending all my time with my family when I’m back in NYC. I don’t even tell friends I’m back anymore. HAHA Ooh, I hope you do get to see your fam soon!!

  • Ah your nephew is super cute!

  • sileas

Awww, sounds like your visit home was very emotional! Fingers crossed, that you’ll soon find another place that feels more like home to you 😉 It sucks when people that matter are leaving :/ The sunsets are breathtaking btw!

    • It’s always good to be home after so many months away… Yes, it’s weird being here now, I kinda feel a bit lost!

      That sunset was definitely amazing!

  • How sweet that you were able to surprise your dad! That “I’m home” moment for me is a certain spot on the freeway on Oahu and in Portland. I love that feeling! Prime Day was a disappointment for me this year. There were a bunch of things I thought about getting, but it wasn’t anything I really needed or wanted very badly so I was good didn’t buy anything.

    • It’s a great feeling!!! Ah well, best save your pennies for something you actually do need/want!! I’m trying to not spend at the moment other then on food. I may want to get an Instant Pot. How adult-like! haha

      • I LOVE my Instant Pot!!! You should definitely get one.

        • I was all set to order one off Amazon, but I heard the voltage doesn’t work here so I need to order it off the UK site. Sigh. That means I have to pay for shipping! AHAHA

  • GREAT job running, lady! You know I love me some running, and I actually DO have a running backpack recommendation! I use this one from Amazon:

    https://www.amazon.com/Hydration-Pack-Free-Water-Bladder/dp/B01N0C0R5B/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1501519500&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=running+backpack+women&psc=1

Good job surprising your Daddy! That’s my favorite thing in the world 🙂

    • I am definitely in awe of you and all the running that you manage to do with 2 littles! I have no excuses! Ooh awesome! Will just bite the bullet and get this backpack! Thanks!! 😀
