Ill Communication

March 24, 2015

Last night, I was chatting away with B and I started to think, why are we always messaging and not actually talking or video chatting?  I mentioned this to him and he promptly video called me.  So that was nice, to not only hear his voice, but see his face as well.  Even if we were both doing mundane things and not looking our best.  Well, I definitely wasn’t after having come home from an intense personal training session.  But, who cares!

It’s nothing new, communicating has become so impersonal.  Don’t get me wrong, its also been amazing being able to just have a quick random chat with my friends whenever, time zone permitting.  But after not having seen them so long, I realize that it would be nice to actually talk to them and hear their voice.  So I will have to make that effort and actually call.  And you my friends, pick up the phone and call me too!! 😛

Whilst all the new means to communicating has been great, what happens when you misinterpret a message?  Or the other person does?  I found this out the hard way, I was stressed out and grumpy and I just kept negatively interpreting the messages B were sending.  Although to be fair, I did warn him I was in a pissy mood!

Despite my warning, it didn’t work.  We ended up bickering.  Bless him, he was only trying to figure out why I was in a bad mood and he just couldn’t wrap his head around the fact that sometimes, I just am.  There’s no rhyme and reason, I’m just grumpy.  Watch out!  Tread with caution!   He kept pushing me to give him an answer and I was just getting frustrated that he couldn’t accept my explanation. And needless to say, you can guess what happened next!

Obviously these were absolutely stupid arguments, but it’s been an interesting learning experience.  It’s giving me a glimpse of what B is like during a misunderstanding/fight/whatever you want to call it and how he will handle the situation.  And of course it give me insight to how I can be… Hard to swallow, because after all, you don’t really ever want to admit you’re wrong…! HAHA

Anyway, all was good in the end and we sorted it out like the sensible adults that we are.  But tell me, what do you do to try and prevent a situation like this even happening?  And how do you resolve it? Any sage words of advice?
