Would You Rather – Travel Edition
I can’t tell you how excited I am to see Friday roll around. The closer I get to my birthday, the harder it is to wake up in the morning to go to work; I wake up feeling like I’ve been hit by a truck every morning. Honestly, this whole getting older thing doesn’t suit me very well. Can I just be 23 forever? Or maybe I’d like to be 6 again.
If you haven’t been reading Ashley’s blog, then you are missing out on her super cool weekend jaunts to different cities around the US. And she’s super sweet on top of that! So today’s post I pilfered from her post from a few weeks ago because I had fun reading it and I thought maybe you would too – but my take on it. I know, it is all about me, people. Just get used to that, ok? Ok, thanks!
Anyway… Let’s get to it! Would You Rather – Travel Edition!
Visit Hogwarts or Narnia?
Narnia! Now, I know everyone under the moon is like obsessed with Harry Potter, but not me. #sorrynotsorry I mean, Harry Potter is fun and all but for some reason, I never got the urge to read the books and I’ve only seen some of the movies. I enjoyed them but it didn’t grab me. And I honestly can’t remember which ones I saw. And well, with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe I absolutely loved reading the books and I have watched all the movies. What can I say, I’m Team Aslan all the way! And how could you live in a world with no Christmas?!?! Hmm. Let that soak into your mind…
Get dumped and eat the cost of your ex’s trip OR spend an entire 2-week holiday with someone you can’t stand?
Well, that’s easy! I would happily eat the cost of the trip and go by myself. I am all for traveling solo – in fact, I am traveling solo to East Timor shortly. I don’t travel solo often, but every once in a while, a solo trip is needed to recharge your batteries and get reconnected with yourself. During a particularly stressful time period in my life, I took one week of unpaid leave and flew down to Egypt to do just that. I highly recommend it! But really, why waste two weeks of your life having to be with someone you can’t stand? Why put yourself through that torture? Life is hard enough as it is, don’t waste time on bad things! And if you’re on your own, you never know what kind of adventure awaits you! I have to say, I do love the unknown!
Live in Africa OR Antarctica for a year?
This is sort of tough because I am absolutely dying to get to Antarctica – I even wrote a post about it when no one read my blog. At least now I get a few readers – thank you! 😉 But as much as I would love a year in Antarctica, I am going to say Africa. I don’t know why but Africa really calls out to me. I would move there in a heartbeat! I’ve had the great fortune in having been to Zanzibar in Tanzania, Kenya and Mauritius. And technically Egypt as well, but to me that is the Middle East. But, but! I really want to hit up Mozambique, Uganda, Botswana, South Africa, Zimbabwe, Rwanda, Cape Verde and oh the list goes on. I’m thinking one year in Africa won’t be long enough…!
Be captured by a wild tribe in the jungle OR by pirates at sea?
Pirates! I love the sea and I long to be by the water all.the.time. The jungle is great and all, but you guys, I would freak out at the massive spiders and leeches and god knows what else exist in there. Just thinking about it gives me the heebie jeebies. And also, does it mean that I get to become a pirate? Because I totally want to be a pirate. Yaasss!
Live in extreme luxury but with no freedom to do what you want OR on the lowest travel budget imaginable but with freedom to travel anywhere you like?
The idea of extreme luxury sounds very appealing, but with no freedom? Then you might as well be a live in maid for some stupidly rich person. No thanks. I’ll happily travel on a non-existent budget to anywhere I’d like. After all, in a lot of places your money goes quite the long way. And have you seen hostels these days? They’re very luxurious! Definitely not the kind of hostels I saw 12 years ago. I ended up at some rooftop hostel bar in Siem Reap when I was there a few weekends ago. Traveling now as a backpacker is a whole different scene it seems, I mean, check out the picture below of the Funky Flashpacker!
Attend the Royal Wedding OR the Olympics?
The Royal Wedding only because it’s not everyone that gets to go. It is definitely an event for the history books – not that the Olympics aren’t but it does happen every 4 years. In fact, one of my regrets for when I was living in London was skipping out of town when Prince William married Kate Middleton. I should have gone to Buckingham Palace and tried to see them when they came out on the balcony. But nope, my girls and I got out of dodge and ended up in Malta. As you do. And we ended up watching the wedding after all on some small TV. Anyway..! Don’t get me wrong, I love, love watching the Olympics but it is more accessible to us, the hoi polloi!
Dine at the hottest new restaurant before it gets big OR a hole in the wall ethnic restaurant with amazing food OR a familiar classic with grandma’s comfort food?
Definitely the hole in the wall ethnic restaurant. It is why I love New York City because there are so many amazing, unassuming ethnic restaurants. I’ve since had the opportunity to eat these cuisines in their respective countries and I have to say, NYC, you were pretty legit! Don’t get me wrong, I’ve eaten at my fair shares of fancy restaurants and while it’s been good, I have to say, it hasn’t been life altering. They were good at the time of, but at this present moment when I reflect on these restaurants, none of them really stand out. I’m all about amazing food – cheap or expensive or anything in between. Full stop.Live one life that lasts 1,000 years or live 10 lives that last 100 years each?
This one is a toughie. I’m not sure I’d want to live 1000 year or even live to 100. And then to have to do it 10 times? Umm. I guess I would choose 10 lives that lasts 100 years each. It’s like a reset button. Our road in life is not always paved in gold; there are moments when you hit rock bottom but you have to carry on and let go of the pain as best as you can. But if you’re living to be 1000 years old, then that is a lot pain you have to carry or try and let go. Gimme that reset button to be blissfully unaware for a few years of life. Although it would be cool to see how the world progresses in that time period.. But you see enough progressions, or regressions, within a century.
Wake up with a regrettable tattoo on your butt or with a random stranger in your bed?
Easy! A random stranger, of course! That means fun was had…! And for all you know, that random stranger could have been Chan Tatum or Ryan Gosling. 😉 A regrettable tattoo on the other hand, umm. That’s pretty permanent. I already have one tattoo I could do without! So, pass on that regrettable tattoo!
Travel wide or travel deep?
Travel deep all the way. Unfortunately reality doesn’t allow for too much deep traveling; if I could, I would go and live in every country for a few months at least. But with that said, it’s why I have chosen to carry on living the expat life. I could have easily stayed put in one place, but having grown up as an expat brat, my feet got itchy and the need to see the world lured me away from NYC. So I moved to London and I got to really experience England and London life. It allowed me to travel around Europe more easily. And its why I moved to Singapore and I’m loving every moment here and again, the travel opportunities from here is just ah-mazing! So, what would your answers be to these questions? Do we agree with all or none at all? Let me know in the comments!
Have a great weekend, lovelies! Please be safe!
