Happy Fri-yay! It was a short week for most – Singapore celebrated Hari Raya on Wednesday, but yours truly was in the office. Womp womp. Let’s try and finish up on my Bali posts while it’s still fresh in my memory, shall we? HA! I still have one more after this one – the summer heat is getting to my head I tell ya…!! It has been stupidly hot here lately and my AC in my room just ain’t working the way it should. Sigh. Anyway, let’s get focused, Julie!!
When I say, “Bali” to you, what do you think of? Does shopping pop up at all in your thoughts? No? Well, it totally should because shopping in Bali is super fun. There are some awesome designers that won’t totally break the bank; home decor boutiques where you will want to pick everything up; and furniture stores where you will mentally just redecorate your entire house. I save my shopping for when I leave Singapore. I find shopping here to be quite tedious most of the time and I avoid the main shopping areas like the plague. Bali, on the other hand, was a delight – walking down the streets of Jl Kayu Aya in Seminyak going into one boutique after another was total bliss for a shopaholic! So, take a stroll with me to some of my favorites!
Magali Pascal Before I even went to Bali, I was totally stalking her website and was mentally going broke at the same time. There were so many things I wanted to try on – I could not wait to get there. Magali Pascal’s designs can be best described as Parisian chic with a bohemian vibe that translates well in any place!
Ana arrived in Bali before I did; by the time I had arrived, she had already gone crazy in there. Luckily for us, there was a store pretty much next door to our hotel. So when I finally got the chance to go, I pretty much pulled everything from the racks. I tried on a lot of pieces, but alas a lot of her clothes are definitely geared toward the tall, willowy girl. I am short with a booty like no other, so some of the dresses I tried on unfortunately did not work well on my body type. So I would definitely recommend you try everything on – some things on Ana didn’t quite suit either despite her being an ex-model. Well, what hope do I have if even some things don’t look good on her? No, I kid, I did find a beautiful dress that worked on my body and not hers. Like, seriously! And aside from sizing, if the tops have cut-out detailing, try them on because they may not lie flat against your body like it should. It just looked wonky! But not all pieces are created equally so ask for a few to try on. Despite these little hiccups, I definitely dropped a pretty penny there. And Ana pretty much bought the whole store! 😉
Magali Pascal has 4 locations around Bali and 2 in Sydney.
Bali Sensasi
For a more relaxed, boho look, Bali Sensasi is your store! I walked in and instantly fell in love with their brightly colored dresses and tops. Perfect for the summer and on the beach, or year round for those living in the tropics. They’ve got cute accessories as well but I only picked up one of their dresses in coral – I am seriously obsessed with that color! And the best part is, they’re all handmade in Bali so it is truly a great souvenir!
♥ For the cutest children’s wear, check out Coco and Ginger.
Rose Avenue (no website)I mean, you look at that wall and you can’t not go in, am I right? It’s next door to Bali Sensasi on Jalan Kayu Aya No 44B and it would have been rude not to go in. I walked in and if I had kids, I would have bought the whole store. At that moment in time, I really wanted to decorate my non-existent little girls room with their stuff. The cutest things ever! I am obsessed with gold accents, so I did almost buy those pillow covers and place mats. But I didn’t – I’m not sure why. Oh I know, I’m actually really bad at decorating because I kind of like so many different styles, so my house would be a hodge podge of designs and it would probably look like someone threw up in there. Anyway… Now that I think about it, another shopping trip to Bali is most definitely in order.
Or if anyone is going, can someone please pick up that unicorn or the flamingo?! 😀
Palma AustraliaI’ve bought a few things from Palma online and I really like this brand. The dress I wore to my friends white party? Yeah, it’s from Palma. So I was looking forward to heading there and I have to say, the actual store was kind of disappointing. It’s also a bit hard to find – but it’s in front of Made Warung’s (this famous Indonesian restaurant which I keep meaning to blog about. sigh).
So, the actual pilgrimage to Palma was a bit of a fail. Oh well. It was only when I got back to Singapore that I saw that white dress and ordered it on-line. HA But you never know, I suppose. You may find some gems in there!
Beachgold is another store worth checking out for some nice beach or lounge wear. I did pick up the dress in the below picture from there and the material is super soft. For some reason, all the souvenir stores in Bali were carrying these feather headpieces. So, I had to try them on for fun!
There are of course loads of other cute boutiques all around this area – but these were my favorites! I hope you enjoyed this little shopping trip with me! 🙂
