I am known to be impetuous at times, throwing caution to the wind and worrying about the consequences later. What can I say, I like to live on the edge, a bit anyway..! So on one of these instances, I threw my hand up during a live auction, not at all aware of where the bidding process was, much less what the bidding was for. Well, would you believe it I threw my hand up at the right time, or should I say, the wrong time? And there you go, I was the proud winner of a 5 night stay at a gorgeous hotel in Mauritius. Oops. Impetuous or stupid? Don’t say it.
That was definitely not meant to happen and I’ve definitely learned my lesson, but hey, I now had 5 nights in Mauritius that I had a year to use. And did I tell you, flights are not included? Eeek! Luckily for me, B was up for a jaunt down to Mauritius, although he had no clue where it was. It is an island-nation in the Indian Ocean, east of Madagascar, just in case you didn’t know where it was either!
So B’s leave has been approved and our flights are booked and we are ready to go! There was a massive hiccup trying to redeem my 5 nights at the gorgeous hotel though. Although our hotels have now been sorted by the events company that organized the auction (with a lot of unnecessary headaches and stress, may I add!), the room we now booked in for just doesn’t compare to what I thought I was getting, so I am a little bummed out by that. Don’t get me wrong, the new hotel will still be lovely and lush. So now I am letting the disappointment fade and I’m focusing on the amazing time B and I will have, most importantly because we will finally be together after not seeing each other for 2.5 months.
I am psyching myself up by researching all that Mauritius offers and I can’t wait to sit down with my Mauritian friend who will also give me insight from a local’s perspective! To me, travelling is trying to immerse yourself in the local culture to get an authentic experience, but that’s not to say I succeed 100% at that all the time. Hey, I’m only human and I get lazy too!

Have you been to Mauritius? If so, what would you say is a must-do?
