Not only is it Friday – yippee! It’s 2 days before Christmas! Hurrah! So in light of the upcoming Christmas celebrations, let me take you to Christmas Wonderland! Christmas Wonderland is held at the Gardens by the Bay – the nature park where you can find the famous SuperTrees, the Flower Dome and the Cloud Dome. Gina, over at Pink Wings blogged about it when she was in Singapore and I loved her post, so I’ll let her post do the explaining!
As you can imagine, Christmas Wonderland is that. Well, they tried to make it a Wonderland. And while it was a Wonderland of sorts, I think it fell a bit flat. But don’t get me wrong, it was beautiful! So maybe I should give them some credit…
You walk in through these beautiful light installations. As you can imagine, it was chock full of people. I thought my smart idea of going on a Tuesday night was brilliant but not so much. And then you come into the main area by the SuperTrees. The SuperTrees really make the Singapore skyline pretty special. Have you seen Planet Earth II? Singapore’s featured in it as a super green city! Yay, Singapore! The SuperTrees are also cool because you do have plants growing up the metal structures, bringing in more biodiversity into this small city-state. And then you have the main Christmas Light Structure, or house. It was pretty neat seeing it all lit up! I mean, that’s some pretty impressive light work! And every once in a while, they’ll have some fake snow coming down. It was a total crowd pleaser, but I stayed away. HA And so then Leroy and I wandered around the Village to check out the little boutiques that were selling their wares; check out the food and drinks stalls – they had a good variety of food; and lastly the fairground! Oh, they even had a Santa’s Hut. Which was free but if you wanted you picture taken/printed with Santa, then you better fork up some dollar bills. Not really sure what the price was since Leroy really had no desire to meet Santa. What a grinch! 😉 So I was expecting a bigger fairground. But umm, no. It was a few rides and rides that I definitely could not get into. Definitely for the kiddos! And some random games but we were being stingy and didn’t cough up for tokens. There was even an ice skating rink in The Palace, though I don’t think it was a real ice skating rink. In the sense that it probably wasn’t real ice. It’s that weird, plastic rink with ice? Gosh, I have no idea how to describe it but it’s common here in Singapore – they have one in the Marina Bay Shoppes. But I didn’t go in. I would have liked to have ice skated just because but I didn’t have any socks on. I only wear socks to work out or when I go back to NYC. HA Yeah, I don’t know who that guy is. But in any case, that’s Christmas Wonderland for you. It’s $8 to get in which isn’t overly expensive but I guess it used to be free in previous years. I was a bit disappointed with the lack of Christmas boutiques. There really weren’t many and I guess I’m a bit spoiled as I’m used to Christmas Markets like the one in Union Square in Manhattan or even the Christmas Markets in Germany. But I guess a few is better then none?
There was also more Christmas festivities going on in the Flower and Cloud Domes but we didn’t go in there. You do have to pay additionally to go in. And actually, I still haven’t even been inside the Domes, so I should go one of these days…
All in all, it was a night out with Leroy. But don’t think I’ll be going back next year. Unless all of a sudden I am a mother of kid of 4 or 5 years old who would appreciate this more. And well, that ain’t happening! 😉
But before I sign off, Merry Christmas to you and your family!
