Who says you can’t choose your family? Ok, you may not be able to choose the family you’re born into, but… You can definitely choose who you surround yourself with. And can I gloat and say how blessed I am to have found amazing families in each city I’ve lived in? So thank you, this post is dedicated to you!
When we all move around from one city to another, whether its by choice, or for work, or for your partner; we leave parts of ourselves behind. And really, it doesn’t matter how fabulous a city is to visit, when you’re actually living there, the memories you make are what makes or breaks the place… Luckily, Í can look back at each city with fond memories.
The older you get, the harder it is to make friends. Frankly, I know what I want out of friendships and if you’re zapping my energy, or demanding too much, or if you’re just a bitch, then BYE BYE!! I ain’t got time for that. I’d much rather spend time on my own then have to deal with unpleasant people.
I had an amazing weekend just past. You know when you’re there, enjoying the moment and then it hits you? I realized how lucky I am to have found such beautiful, amazing individuals to call my family here in Singers. We all have our faults, our bits of craziness, but we all embrace our character flaws that essentially make us perfect. It’s refreshing. I also know that when and if I really need their help, they will be there. No questions asked.
So this weekend was a joyous occasion because our good friend E was back in town after having recently left our fair shores for Switzerland; and our other dear friend B was permanently back after having spent the last 6-7 months in Jakarta. And oh, what fun we had! There was good food, good wine and most importantly, we had each other. And everyone else who joined through out the night commented on how welcomed they felt in our group and that this was a place where they could be who they are, no judgments. That my friend, is rare to find. And that is why I am blessed here in Singers. And when I leave here at some point, these are the nights that I will carry with me.
